- DSPL is focused on planning and commissioning Special Educational Services to meet the needs of disabled children
and those with Special Education Needs and or additional needs in their local area.
There are two files of DSPL Areas; for most uses, please see DSPL-OA - the DSPL Areas created with Output Area Geographies.
DSPL boundaries are notional in the respect that they were amalgamations of the notional Local Partnership areas (now defunct) developed to facilitate needs analysis - Topic Category

- Originally created at LSOA level for the Perfomance Monitoring Team; these were termed "Analytical Notional Areas"
A couple of the schools do not work in the "correct" areas however (due to the size of the LSOAs), so in order to make the maps, a second dataset was made using OutPut Areas - these were "Illustrative Notional Areas".
The Illustrative Notional Areas were archived in 2017, however in 2020 it was agreed that going forwards all maps would use Output Areas, and the LSOA areas should only be used for reporting when comparisions with other data is needed.
